COMMON EAP QUESTIONS ANSWERED
How old does my child need to be?
Ideally, the child should be 8 years of age or older. The youngest age at which a child can attend equine-assisted psychotherapy is 4.
How many people are in each session?
Sessions are very personal. Therefore, it will be you and your group (supporting people, friends, and family) that are in the session together. I do offer group sessions outside of a family unit, however, that will be discussed upon consultation.
What if I can’t make my session?
Give me a call or text at least 12 hours in advance. Please note that sessions will not be rescheduled unless it is discussed well in advance. Sessions will be rescheduled only if the weather does not permit safe travel. This will be discussed with Stephanie at least 24 hours in advance regarding weather forecast notifications.
How long does each session last?
This is very dependent on each participant. Typically, each session is about one hour long; however, sometimes participants are ‘done’ after half an hour, and the next participant is involved in such a learning moment that we extend the session a few minutes.
Do you run sessions year-round?
We offer EAP programming from April 1 - November 1. December - March is too cold for us to be working outside.
Do we get to ride the horses?
The Equine Assisted Psychotherapy program is strictly an on-the-ground program. The horse will be with you throughout the session, guiding you on your journey of self-growth. You will NOT ride the horses.
Can I bring my dog with me?
If you have a service dog, yes, please bring your service dog along. However, I would ask that you leave your dog (not a service/therapy dog) at home when coming out to an equine-assisted psychotherapy session.
What should I wear?
The number one thing you need to wear is boots or running shoes. Unfortunately, if you show up with sandals or flip-flops, you will be asked to sit out of the session. As for clothing, please dress appropriately for the weather outside. This might be shorts and t-shirts, OR snowsuits with mittens and scarves.
Do I need to wear a helmet?
YES. If you are under 18, participants are required to wear a helmet. Success Ranch does not supply helmets for participants. You will be responsible for bringing your helmet to your sessions. Please contact Stephanie if you have questions or concerns in this regard.
